English Public Speaking and Debating
Every Wednesday after school, a group of learners comes together in UK 3 for English public speaking and debating.
The group has grown considerably as the popularity of the debating has increased. More and more learners are realising that there is fun in public speaking and debating.
Many activities fill the hour after school. These include impromptu debates, improvisation exercises which remind one of the popular “Who’s line is it anyway?” and voice exercises – Fluuuuuuuum!
Once a term a workshop is presented in which learners are able to work on their own dramatic skills. Workshops include character creation, setting a scene, movement and improvisation (Retelling the story of “The Three Little Pigs” in 60 seconds is quite challenging!).
DF Malan takes part in the annual Rotary Debate competition, in which a senior and junior team is entered. This year our senior team reached the quarter finals. Furthermore, the debaters attend young communicators workshops and the Western Cape Provincials.
Should there be any enquiries, Mrs van Aardt will be able to help.
There is so much more to English Debating - Come and experience it for yourself!
